How Invested Are You?

In Sunday’s talk, Dr. James asked us to reflect on how committed we are to being and staying awake. He asked us to be cognizant of the “investment” we are making towards the growth in our consciousness, towards our own awareness of REMEMBERING WHO WE ARE. That struck me, the word investment. It gave me pause to self-evaluate how I’ve been using my investment…my mental coin. And, while I can admit there are times I could be better, I can also recognize that I have come a LONG way from those days where I readily “squandered” my investment. You see, everything you do, say, think, and believe is an investment in the future of your experiences…EVERYTHING. Just like your retirement plan is an investment, so is what you are saying to yourself and to others. And being aware of your responsibility to this investment is a top priority.
Ernest Holmes writes in The Science of Mind,
“We are surrounded by a Spirit of living Intelligence, and external givingness, love, goodness, and power, that wishes to express Itself through (and as) us. There is a Divine Urge within, ever pushing us forward…” “Both love and law are perfect and we, as individuals, can experience only what we really believe and act upon.”
What he is saying is that this Intelligent Energy that is God is propelled by a Law that is fueled ONLY BY LOVE that exists within and AS us, it is dynamic, giving, and ready to be fully expressed. We express and experience this Energy as immensely or as limited as we choose. It is the energy of our own beliefs that informs the LOVE and therefore the Law about how we would like to be experiencing life.
So, as I pondered my “investment,” my “mental coin,” I got clear about just how much more I’d like to be experiencing from Life! I also got clear about the fact that at every moment I am investing…and I can invest a little or I can invest a lot, the choice is mine…it always has been! I am awake to my investment. Ernest Holmes goes on to say, “This awakening is a process of evolution, a little here and a little there until the whole eye is opened and we see that life is neither separate from God nor different from Good.” This can be our daily investment, knowing that there is a constant evolution of our own Spiritual Growth towards knowing that we are not sperate from God … Remembering Who We ARE … at every moment.
